How to Help

Be a CASA Volunteer
CASA volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing a variety of experiences to their work as advocates on behalf of abused and neglected children. There are no special educational or professional requirements, but advocates must be at least 21 years old and live in the greater Montgomery County area. Volunteers are carefully screened and receive 40 hours of training before being assigned to children.

The CASA volunteer’s primary responsibility is to serve as the “eyes and ears” of the Court. CASA's research all aspects of their assigned child’s life–his or her present living situation, biological and extended family, school situation, etc.–and make written recommendations to the Juvenile Court as to the child’s best interest.

There are more than 73,000 volunteers nationally. Since 1987, Voices for Children Montgomery has trained nearly more than 1,800 volunteers to serve as advocates for more than 1,860 children. Despite this success, the voices of many abused and neglected children here in Montgomery County are not being heard due to a lack of volunteers.

If you would like more information about becoming a volunteer with Voices for Children Montgomery, please complete the form on the Contact Us page and submit it directly to the Voices for Children office. Or call (301) 340-7458 to speak directly with a staff member. If you live outside the greater Montgomery County area and wish to locate a CASA program near you, please contact the National CASA office at 1-800-628-3233 or visit their website at www.casaforchildren.org

Become A "Friend of CASA"
Our office is always in need of volunteers who may not have time to become an advocate for a child, but could provide help with additional needs. The "Friends of CASA" program of Montgomery County provides event planning, fundraising and volunteer recruitment support for CASA. If you would like more information about joining "Friends of CASA," please call our CASA office at 301-340-7458 or email us at mail@casamontgomery.org. Thank you!
